America's Next President

                        Just a few days ago Texas senator Ted Cruz (R) ushered in the 2016 presidential campaigns with his announcement that he would be running for president. With this announcement more and more potential candidates will be jumping into the fray to attempt to get their parties nominees. Here we will take a look at the potential candidates on each the Republican and Democratic side.

              First, a look at the Democratic Party shows one major front runner at first glance, Hilary Clinton. Clinton has shown some of the strongest potential after narrowly losing to President Obama in 2008, but I do not believe that she is truly a feasible candidate for two key reasons. First, her recent email scandal will hold her back because it reaffirms what is viewed to be her greatest flaw, a lack of transparency between her and the American public. The second reason is that she is too closely identified with President Obama. Going off the momentum the Republicans gained in the 2014 elections the Democrats will have to choose a new face and that is not Clinton. The best candidate on the Democratic side is Andrew Cuomo Governor of New York. He is viewed as more moderate than Clinton or even Joe Biden and has stayed largely under the radar. He also is influential in a region the Democrats need to dominate to win this election.

              The Republican ticket is a lot fuzzier that the Democratic one. There are many more feasible players than the Democratic side. Ultimately, I believe it comes down to two people Governor Jeb Bush of Florida and Scott Walker, Governor of Wisconsin (pictured). The Republicans will want a strong new image coming from a gubernatorial position to help them reclaim Washington and these are there two best opportunities. Bush’s draw is his corporate connections and his more moderate status. The advantages Walker holds are his ability to connect with the common person and his strong economic history. In the end I believe Walker will pull it out in the end for a reason that may seem surprising. I do not believe the GOP is willing to elect a third president from the same family.

              In the end if I had to make a prediction I believe that America’s next president will be a Republican. Regardless of if it is Bush or Walker the Republicans will ride recent success to the White House in 2016.
